What is the vascular laser?

Le vascular laser is a type of medical laser which is used for treat visible blood vessels on the surface of the skin, such as rosacea or spider veins.

The vascular laser is used in particular to treat rosacea (or rosacea), a skin condition that mainly affects women between 40 and 50 years old.

These are localized and most often benign rednesses, made up of very fine dilated vessels, but which can, in the long run, become disabling because they are unsightly. Generally, they are located around the play, nose, chin, front and neck. Rosacea can also give the appearance of red spots.

The dilation of the vessels progresses, causing redness which becomes more and more permanent and which is sometimes accompanied by red spots (acne rosacea).

Aesthetic dermatology today offers solutions to counter this phenomenon, in particular Vascular laser treatment.

Areas treated by vascular laser

The main areas treated by the action of the vascular laser are:

  • The face
  • The neck

Vascular laser results

The vascular laser results are particularly effective on the red vessels of the face but also on the blue veins. It must nevertheless be understood that the result (partial or total) will not be definitive and will require maintenance (on average one or two sessions every 1 to 2 years).

Indications and contraindications of vascular laser

The vascular laser can be used to:

  • Reduce the appearance of redness and scarring
  • Treating symptoms associated with rosacea

Most vascular laser procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and do not require anesthesia. Vascular laser is generally well tolerated and side effects are rare. However, this treatment is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Vascular laser technique

The laser uses a high energy light beam to heat and damage the walls of blood vessels. It is this coagulation of the vessels which will make them disappear. Vascular lasers are different from other types of lasers, such as those used for tattoo removal, because they are designed to target the smallest blood vessels and cause as little damage to surrounding tissue as possible.

To avoid burns, it is necessary to proceed delicately and gradually increase the power in a given area. There laser power must be adapted to each skin type and each case. Only an experienced doctor trained in these techniques will be able to treat you with safety and optimized results.

At Renécia, we use laser DermaV from Lutronic multi-applications.

Course of a vascular laser session

An initial consultation with a doctor from our clinic will be necessary, in order to establish a targeted diagnosis and define a treatment protocol.

After a 24-hour reflection period, you will be admitted to our clinic again to begin your treatment.

Generally, a vascular laser session lasts approximately 10/15 minutes – depending on the area to be treated.

Beforehand, the skin must be makeup removed and cleansed. The doctor may prescribe the application of a moisturizer to prepare your skin.

To begin, the doctor asks safety glasses laser rays and a gel on the area to be treated. Then it scans the affected areas with light pulses which will heat the dilated vessels to make them coagulate. To calm the feeling of heat and soothe the skin, the practitioner can apply a repair cream after the session.

In the days following the session, you will need to regularly spray the skin with thermal water, as well as regularly apply a soothing and hypoallergenic cream.

faq

Vascular laser is a relatively new medical technology that provides minimally invasive treatment for vascular conditions. The vascular laser specifically targets the small broken blood vessels that cause redness and spots on the skin. When the laser is applied to the skin, it emits high-energy light that is absorbed by blood vessels. This absorption process creates heat, which causes blood vessels to contract and disappear.

Vascular lasers are usually performed by dermatologists or plastic surgeons. However, any licensed physician can perform this procedure.

The most common method for removing visible blood vessels is vascular laser treatment. A high-power laser is used to target and destroy the blood vessels causing the visible appearance of the vessels. It is a non-surgical procedure that poses few risks.

Vascular lasers are an effective and safe option for treating facial vessels.

Side effects are usually minor and may include temporary redness, swelling, and bruising. This swelling is quite common in the following 48 hours, due to local edema which may appear before resolving quickly over the following days. With proper makeup, it is quite easy to hide small marks. On the other hand, you should absolutely not expose yourself to the sun during the following month in order to avoid pigmentation of the skin.
